GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers are adding some needed depth to their defensive line with the addition of Josh Avery, according to a source.
Avery (6-3, 320) played at Southeast Missouri State. In two seasons, he recorded 41 total tackles, seven tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks in 23 games. That included 1.5 sacks and six tackles for losses as a senior.
He went through a tryout earlier in the day.
Avery went undrafted last year and was signed by the Seattle Seahawks immediately after the draft. However, with teams forced to cut their roster from 90 players to 80 due to COVID, Avery never lined up for training camp. He spent the year out of the NFL but did play in The Spring League.

Week two of training camp began after the Packers enjoyed a Sunday off and Head Coach Matt LaFleur is ramping up the installation of his offense and defense. While most of Monday’s 1:45 workout on Ray Nitschke Field was a review of the first four sessions, it also included the first practice snaps of two minute drill plays and backed up offense.
In the final team period, the scenario was set with a minute, 15 seconds on the clock and the offense starting at it’s own 25. Jordan Love got first dibs at running the two minute as the number two offense went against the second team defense. After a handoff to A.J. Dillon gained two yards, Love’s first pass was batted back in his face. He did convert a third down with a check down pass to DeAndre Thompkins for a gain of 10 but the series stalled at midfield.

Under a midnight sky, Aaron Rodgers returned to Green Bay, deplaning from a private jet at Austin Straubel International Airport, hoping into a waiting SUV and catching a couple of winks before showing up at Lambeau Field around 8:30 this morning, looking every bit like an MVP quarterback ready for a sequel season, perhaps his last as a Packer.

The tumultuous off-season in the rear view mirror but with almost as many questions remaining about his future beyond the 2021 campaign, Rodgers put his name on a contract reconstructed by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.
