On Sunday, the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMA) honored the year s greatest chart-toppers with a night of live shows, show-stopping moments, and big wins. BTS, Bad Bunny, Karol G, H.E.R, Migos, Twenty One Pilots, DJ Khaled, and more performed at this year s event, which aired live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. Washington [US], May 24 (ANI): The Billboard Music Awards celebrated yet another iteration of its beloved show on Sunday, with American singer-songwriter The Weeknd dominating the ceremony with 10 awards, including the climactic top artist trophy, followed by the late Pop Smoke with five, and BTS and Bad Bunny with four apiece.
According to E! News, the finalists were chosen based on their performance on Billboard charts as well as music sales, streaming platform statistics, radio airplay, and social engagement.
The Weeknd, while accepting one of the several awards on camera earlier in the evening promised a change of stylistic pace to come in his future album and performance cycles. He said, The after hours are done and the dawn is coming.

The Weeknd was the king of the 2021 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night, taking home a total of 10 honours.
The singer picked up seven accolades before the live portion of the show even began, claiming prizes such as Top Male Artist, Top R&B Artist, and Top R&B Album for After Hours, and he added a further three - including Top Artist - to his haul during the main ceremony. Late rapper Pop Smoke, who was killed in February 2020, was another big winner with five titles in the lead up to the event, earning Top New Artist, Top Rap Artist, and Top Rap Album for his posthumously-released debut, Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon.
Top finalist The Weeknd took home the most trophies of the night with ten – including Top Artist and Top Hot 100 Artist – bringing his career total to 19.

The Weeknd won a leading 10 awards at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, including the climactic top artist trophy presented as the climax of the night, followed by the late Pop Smoke with five, and BTS and Bad Bunny with four apiece.
Accepting one of several awards on-camera earlier in the evening, the Weeknd promised a change of stylistic pace to come in his future album and performance cycles. “The after hours are done and the dawn is coming,” he vowed. At another point, he made a joke after beginning with a slight show-of-religiosity fake-out. “I’d like to thank God… that I don’t have to wear that red suit anymore,” he said.
