‘Justice for Black America Is Justice for All America’: Reaction to Chauvin Guilty Verdict
After a trial closely watched both nationally and internationally, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on April 20 was found guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd. Street actions many spontaneous took place throughout the Bay Area, such as the rally “Justice for George Floyd is No More Cop Terror!” held at 24th and Mission in San Francisco. The Party for Socialism and Liberation – Bay Area, which organized the rally, stated: “Though Chauvin was convicted on all 3 counts, we know it was the power of the people, not the courts, that made this happen. The fight for true justice is far from over.”

Putting on hold a controversy that had dogged it for months, the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to suspend plans to rename a third of its public schools, including those named after presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.
In voting to overturn its previous decision, the board provided breathing room for San Franciscans upset at the renaming of public schools through what they saw as a flawed process. But it also frustrated school activists hoping the district would no longer honor U.S. historical figures they see as linked to white supremacy, colonization, slavery and oppression.

The hatred that permeated the global community in 2020 has increased to unprecedented numbers. Amidst the continuing pandemic, violence against Asian and Pacific Islanders has increased nearly by 150% this year - and we re not even to the halfway point.
These attacks have targeted largely the community s most vulnerable members: the elderly and the poor.
To this end, a coalition of API nonprofits have banded together to increase awareness of the issue. On April 3, 2021 at 1pm in San Francisco s Castro District, the coalition will be gathering for a rally to speak out against the violence plaguing the country.
Community leaders, activists, and artists will be joining efforts to speak out against the violence against the API community at the rally.
