MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) Moorhead City Council approves the city’s contract with Cass County Vector Control over mosquito spraying but votes to remove aerial spraying over concerns of harmful effects.
Cass County Vector Control has provided mosquito control service to Moorhead since 2015, but this year’s renewal is having a bit of push back over concerns of aerial spraying.

FARGO Cass County Vector Control will soon start making the rounds to control the mosquito population before it grows.
Crews are expected to start larval control sometime during the week of Monday, April 26. That s when they put pesticides in mosquito breeding grounds, like standing water, to help stop them from multiplying.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) Some Moorhead City Council members are expressing concerns over aerial spraying for mosquito control.
“There’s been quite a bit of community members expressing concern in terms of spraying both aerial spraying as well as ground based spraying. There have been other residents who have also expressed support for the current practices Vector Control use.” Moorhead Ward 4 City Councilor, Steve Lindaas said.

MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO KVRR) – At least one member of the Moorhead City Council says he’s considering a motion to eliminate aerial mosquito spraying and another member says he’s heard from residents concerned about the practice.
“I’m considering it. I never liked it, not in favor,” City Council member Larry Seljevold said. Seljevold, who represents Ward 3, says his concerns were prompted by what he calls the “monarch massacre.”
In August, 2020, thousands of monarch butterflies or moths resembling monarchs died during aerial mosquito spraying after heavy rains in the metro raised concerns about West Nile virus.
