ISLAMABAD: Who will become the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) prime minister– billionaire real estate tycoon Sardar Tanveer Ilyas or veteran politician and former AJK PM Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry?
Had one of the two been beaten in Sunday’s general elections, there would be no doubt that the other would have clinched the top slot. The victory of both has proved that they are strong enough in their respective constituencies to overcome their rivals.
Tanveer Ilyas and Sultan Mahmood remained confined to their constituencies during the poll campaign and could not run the PTI’s electioneering across AJK to present themselves as leaders with electoral appeal throughout the state.

ISLAMABAD/ Muzaffarabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday thanked the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for “placing their trust in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) through their votes” as it emerged as the largest party in the AJK Legislative Assembly’s elections.
The PTI won 25 of the 45 seats which were up for grabs in the July 25 elections, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) managed to secure 11 and 6 seats, respectively, according to results. Both the Jammu and Kashmir People’s Party (JKPP) and the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (AJKMC) bagged one seat each. However, the result of the LA-16 Bagh constituency was withheld. Both the PML-N and the PPP rejected the election results. PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Monday alleged the PTI won the AJK polls through rigging.
