Almost 10% of staff at GUH off work due to COVID-19 7 January 2021 print Galway Bay fm newsroom – Almost 10 percent of the 4,000 strong workforce at the Galway University Hospital Group are off sick due to COVID-19. Over 390 staff at GUH were unable to work yesterday as they had either contracted the virus or had been identified as close contacts. GUH comprises of University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park University Hospital. Chief Executive of the Saolta Hospital Group Tony Canavan says the impact on healthcare staff is one of the biggest of the third wave and is placing huge demands on the health service.

Galway West Sinn Fein Deputy Mairéad Farrell says couples have expressed their disappointment at the continued restrictions on wedding celebrations. It comes as music and dancing was allowed under previous level three restrictions earlier this year. This time around, however, weddings have been limited to a marriage ceremony and a sit down meal with 25 guests. NUI Galway Professor Says Psychology Key To Successful Vaccine Roll Out

Galway Bay FM 11 December 2020 From the Galway Bay Fm newsroom: An NUI Galway Professor of Psychology says reassurance and information will be key to the successful roll out of the Covid 19 vaccine. A high-level taskforce looking at how the vaccine would be rolled out once approved is due to complete its report by today. GPs, nurses and pharmacists are expected to be involved – and there will be a communications campaign to encourage uptake. Speaking on Galway Talks earlier, NUI Galway Professor of Psychology Brian Hughes says getting the psychology right and removing any barriers to accessing the vaccine will be crucial in ensuring its successful roll out.
