Ben Crump released the following statement on the bodycam footage of the killing of Joshua Feast, a 22-year-old Black man, who was shot to death by La Marque police officer Jose Santos on Dec. 9, 2020, as he was running away, posing no threat. “ Today, the City of La Marque released the video footage captured by Officer Jose Santos’ body camera on the night he shot and killed Joshua Feast. As we had previously suspected, Officer Santos didn’t give Joshua any verbal commands, but shot him in the back as he tried to run away. This footage portrays one thing: A defenseless man was shot in the back when he had not disobeyed a single lawful command and posed no threat to the officer.

(KPRC) HOUSTON – Civil rights attorney Ben Crump renewed his call for the release of body camera footage in the death of Joshua Feast following the results of an independent autopsy announced Thursday. Crump has previously called for the firing of a La Marque police officer who has been involved in two fatal shootings. Officer Jose Santos was identified as the officer who shot and killed Joshua Feast during an encounter Dec. 9. Investigators said Feast got out of a vehicle and ran across the street into a driveway when Santos opened fire.

Independent autopsy report shows Joshua Feast La Marque man was shot in back

Supporters marched to demand justice after 22-year-old Joshua Feast was shot and killed by a La Marque police officer, according to authorities. The officer s name, Jose Santos, was released, but not without hesitation by city leaders. La Marque PD Chief Kirk Jackson became contentious over questions about the officer s age and race, let alone his name, which the chief and Mayor Pro-tem Keith Bell refused to answer. This was despite police immediately identifying Feast as Black. According to Jackson, the information on Santos was subject to approval by the Galveston County Sheriff s Office, which is leading the investigation. Jackson also confirmed there was body camera footage of the confrontation, to which he said will be released to the public following the investigation. This is the same footage that Crump and Feast s family wants released immediately.
