An Onslow County Marine with the All-Marine Wrestling Team based out of Marine Corps Air Station New River will compete in Greco-Roman Wrestling at the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

John Stefanowicz of York County, Pennsylvania, won three consecutive matches on day one of the U.S. Olympic Team Trials held in Fort Worth, Texas, April 2-3 to win the Challenge Tournament with a 1-1 victory based on scoring criteria to advance to the best-of-three final for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.
On day two, Stefanowicz punched his ticket to the Olympics, laying claim as the country s best 87 kg Greco-Roman wrestler after taking down Joe Rau in two rounds 6-5, 2-1.

Onslow County has officially begun vaccinating restaurant employees against COVID-19 as part of Phase Three of Five in their vaccination plan, a phase which includes front line workers, transportation, hospitality and restaurant workers.
Among the first Onslow County food and beverage workers to receive the COVID-19 vaccine was local Domino’s supervisor Terry Blowers, who got his first shot at the Onslow County Multipurpose Complex Thursday morning in order to protect those around him.
“It makes me feel good that all my team members are more safe because I’m not going store to store unvaccinated,” Blowers said. “It wasn’t necessarily about me. It was more about my team members and their families”
