The NFL offseason has entered yet another stage.
We ve gone through the frenzy of free agency. The drama of the NFL draft. The revelry of rookie minicamp (OK, that one was a stretch). And now it s time for the outstandingness of organized team activities.
And…I broke alliteration.
Kidding aside, it s an important time for NFL teams: The first gathering of new arrivals and old standbys. For rookie players, it s the first opportunity to interact on the practice field with their veteran counterparts. For new coaches, it s the first chance to install new schemes and put their stamp on a franchise.
Broncos sign three tryout players; Calvin Anderson signs exclusive rights tender May 17, 2021 at 03:19 PM Copied!
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. The Broncos have signed three of their tryout players from last weekend s rookie minicamp.
Denver signed tackle Cody Conway, quarterback Case Cookus and linebacker Pita Taumoepenu, the team announced Monday.
Tackle Calvin Anderson also officially signed his exclusive rights tender, which will keep him under contract with the Broncos through the 2021 season.
Denver also made a pair of corresponding moves, as the Broncos waived linebacker David Curry and tackle Ryan Pope to remain below the NFL s 90-man roster limit.
Conway is a former 33-game starter at Syracuse who went undrafted in 2019. Though he has yet to appear in a regular-season game, he has spent time on NFL practice squads over the previous two seasons.
Roster move recap from the past week
a quick recap of the four roster moves from the last week
I’ll begin with the two “negative” moves.
Both Ja’wuan James and DaeSean Hamilton have been released after getting injured away from the team facilities. James hurt his Achilles tendon and Hamilton tore his ACL. It would appear that the team is going to take the option that they have from the CBA to withhold the base salary of both players since their injuries took place away from team facilities.
The NFLPA was encouraging players to work out away from team facilities due to concerns over COVID-19. This move saves the team money, but it seems like it could seriously hurt the front office’ chances with potential free agents. Although it does not appear to have hurt with the signings of Bobby Massie and Cameron Fleming.
