It was so quiet that I could hear a swan near the stern preening its pristine feathers before turning in for the night. And it was so peaceful that I found myself captivated by the bird’s bedtime routine as the sun sank below the surface of the lake. A few nibbles with the beak, a shimmy, then on to the next downy spot in need of attention.
