The domestic equity benchmarks ended with minor gains after a volatile day on Thursday. Metal stocks surged while banks and financials corrected. The Nifty closed below the 14,900 mark.
As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, gained 84.45 points or 0.17% to 49,746.21. The Nifty 50 index rallied 56.70 points or 0.38% to 14,875.75.
The broader market rallied. The S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.60%. The S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.73%.
Buyers outnumbered sellers. On the BSE, 1873 shares rose and 1046 shares fell. A total of 166 shares were unchanged.
Investors risk appetite improved after the minutes of last month s meeting of the U.S. Federal Reserve suggested that Fed officials were united on the need to see more progress on economic recovery before scaling back their bond-buying program.

These vaccines are the first that have been developed within the country by using locally isolated strains, a step towards making India self-sufficient, Atmanirbhar, for the country s requirement of Classical Swine Fever Vaccine and Sheep Pox Vaccine.
The agreements were signed on 26 March 2021, followed with a virtual ceremony that took place on 7 April 2021. The technologies were developed by ICAR-IVRI and the commercialization of the technologies was facilitated by Agrinnovate India, a company owned by Department of Agricultural, Research & Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India.
Both the vaccines have been extensively tested by IVRI for safety and potency and have been found to provide 100% protection.

The Sensex rose 1.19% and the Nifty climbed 1.61% in three consecutive sessions.
The broader market outperformed the benchmarks on Thursday. The BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.60% and the BSE Small-Cap index added 0.73%.
The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 1,857 shares rose and 1,061 shares fell. A total of 167 shares were unchanged.

Hester Biosciences jumped 8.79% to Rs 2190 after the company signed agreement with ICAR-IVRI (Indian Council Of Agri Research - Indian Veterinary Research Institute) for classical swine fever & sheep pox vaccines.
In a regulatory filing made during market hours today, the company said that the agreements are for acquiring technologies for the production and commercialisation of classical swine fever vaccine & sheep pox vaccine.
