Fernandes and Cavani partnership is clicking and it spells trouble for opponents
May 7, 2021
Bruno Fernandes and Edinson Cavani combined perfectly for the Uruguayan to head in a fantastic equaliser in Rome.
It was Cavani’s second goal of the game and while United went on to concede a late goal and lose the tie on the night, he was fantastic over the two legs.
As brilliant as Cavani was, he could not have done it without Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes is developing a real understanding with Cavani, learning when the striker will time his runs, and where he will be.

He showed how seriously he takes that role late in the second half in Rome.

Overview
Chelsea laid down a marker with a statement win over the most successful club in Champions League history, and the margin of victory could’ve easily been twice 2-0. Chelsea executed the game-plan well, except the finishing part with absolute conviction and blew away a very strong opponent.
Every Chelsea starter brought their A-game. Chelsea created opportunities from almost every scenario turnovers, set-pieces, set possession play, etc. and did not give Madrid any time to breathe on the ball. Purely in terms of performance, this was arguably Chelsea’s best outing since the 2-1 win away at Atlético Madrid in 2017-18.

How do you follow up the biggest performance in club history? Perhaps by not letting the WSL title slip through your fingers against a London rival.
While Chelsea were busy punching our tickets to Gothenburg on Sunday, Manchester City quietly reclaimed top position in the league table. But with only one league match remaining for City, they need some unexpected assistance from the Blues to maintain that position.
Given how ruthless Chelsea have been all season, it’s highly unlikely the Blues will hand Manchester City a lifeline, but you never know. Two victories in our final two matches will see us defend the title and win the league for the second year running.
