HELENA â Union members â and some big corporations employing union workers â lined up Tuesday to oppose a bill to make Montana a âright-to-workâ state, arguing it would lower wages and needlessly undermine organized labor here.
The pro-labor forces squared off against the National Right to Work Committee and other free-market lobbyists, which said itâs time for Montana to become the 28
th right-to-work state and ban what they called âforced unionism.â
âUnder current law in Montana, employees who never requested union representation can be forced to accept a labor union as their exclusive monopoly bargaining agent,â said Greg Mourad of the national committee. âThen, rubbing salt in the wound, they can be forced to pay for representation they never requested, do not want and indeed may be working
