Softball Places Six on 2021 All-ACC Teams

May 11, 2021 - by Bret Clein Softball Places Six on 2021 All-ACC Teams TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida State placed six student-athletes on the 2021 All-ACC Teams as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday. Sydney Sherrill was also named the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year as announced by the conference earlier today. Sherrill is joined by Devyn Flaherty and Kathryn Sandercock on the first team. Caylan Arnold was named to the All-ACC Second Team, Dani Morgan and Kalei Harding were named to the Third Team. Flaherty and Harding were also named to the ACC’s All-Freshman team. This is the third consecutive season that Sydney Sherrill has been named to the All-ACC First team. Sydney was second on the team with a .299 batting average. She led the team with 11 doubles, leading to 25 RBI. She is now the ACC’s all-time leader in doubles with 62.

Softball Earns Two Wins at Pittsburgh

The four-game series will conclude on Sunday at 10 a.m. “I’m really excited about our fight today,” FSU head coach Lonni Alameda said. “From pitch one to last pitch of a doubleheader, I thought we put it together as a team today and it was really good to see us come back after a tough game last night, knowing that Pitt is fighting to get into the ACC Tournament. It was a team day.” After going ahead 5-4 in the seventh inning in Game 1, the Seminoles got the bats going in Game 2, stringing together 14 runs on 12 hits, including two home runs from freshman Kalei Harding.

May 7, 2021 No. 6 Noles Fall to Pitt PITTSBURGH, Pa.   The sixth-ranked Florida State softball team (36-9-1) fell to Pittsburgh (17-27) on Friday at Vartabedian Field after the Panthers hit a two-run walk-off home run, handing the Seminoles a 5-6 loss. Florida State was paced by redshirt junior Sydney Sherrill, who hit her first home run of the season and 33 rd of her career to put the Seminoles in front 1-0 in the top of the first. Sherrill also broke a 4-4 tie after sending an RBI-double to center field in the top of the sixth.   The Moore, Oklahoma, native, is poised to move up the career record ranks as she one homer shy of tying Cali Harrord (34) for sixth place on FSU’s all-time home runs list. Sherrill is also one RBI away from tying Courtney Senas (158) in sixth on the all-time RBI list.

May 6, 2021 No. 6 Softball Heads to Pittsburgh for the Final Weekend of the Regular Season TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The sixth-ranked Florida State softball team (36-8-1) goes to Pittsburgh (16-27) this weekend for the final weekend of the regular season. Florida State leads the all-time series against the Panthers, 18-1. The last time the two teams met was in 2018 when the Seminoles and Panthers met four times. FSU took two of three in the regular-season series before defeating Pitt 5-4 in the 2018 ACC Championship game. Anna Shelnutt hit a walk-off three-run home run in that game. The Seminoles and Panthers are scheduled to play one game Friday, May 7 at 6 pm, a doubleheader on Saturday, May 8 starting at 1 pm and one game on Sunday, May 9 at 12 pm. All four games this weekend will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

Three Run Sixth Inning Carries Softball Over the Wolfpack on Senior Day

Kathryn Sandercock picked up her 20 th win of the season after pitching the final three innings. She struck out four and only allowed one hit and no walks. Caylan Arnold started the game and pitched four innings for the Noles. She allowed three hits and one run with four strikeouts of her own. Florida State scored in the first inning for the second time this weekend to take an early 1-0 lead. Sydney Sherrill walked with one out and then advanced to second after a Kalei Harding single to the shortstop. Cassidy Davis then hit her second double of the weekend and third extra-base hit to score Sherrill.
