KARACHI: While reiterating its opposition to the current lockdown in Sindh by the provincial government, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Tuesday claimed it could help open the businesses across Karachi if allowed by Prime Minister Imran Khan, warning that the fate of the provincial capital and urban centre could not be decided by the people from rural areas as it was solely the Karachiites’ right.

Veteran actor Anwar Iqbal passes away

KARACHI: Renowned TV actor Anwar Iqbal passed away Thursday afternoon after a protracted illness, according to family and friends. He was in his 70s. The actor had been chronically ill for some time and had issued a statement Saturday, requesting his fans to pray for his health. He had also requested his fans for his privacy during his health struggles. It remains to be known what the cause of death was. However, one of his family friends told The News that Iqbal was suffering from multiple diseases, including diabetes. The veteran television actor and director had achieved fame with his work on the hit drama series ‘Shama.’ He went on to star in Naseem Hijazi’s Akhri Chattan in the early 1980s and acted in many Urdu and Sindhi dramas. He made his directorial debut with the drama Ishq Pecha in 1984 and directed some Urdu and Sindhi dramas.

Mahmood Moulvi appointed as SAPM on Maritime Affairs

KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Mahmood Moulvi as Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Maritime Affairs, according to a notification.
As per the notification, “The Prime Minister, in terms of rule 4(6) of the Rules of Business, 1973 read with serial No.1A of Schedule V-A of the said Rules, has been pleased to appoint Mahmood Moulvi as Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Maritime Affairs with immediate effect.”
In a tweet, Moulvi thanked PM Imran and Federal Minister Ali Zaidi for honouring him with the position of SAPM. Moulvi has earlier as advisor at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. He has also served on various position, including senior vice president, of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Western Sindh region.
