23 QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA U.S. Army Pacific paratroopers jumped onto Kangaroo Drop Zone July 28 near Charters Towers Australia, as part of simulated Joint Forcible Entry Operation during Exercise Talisman Sabre 21 – the largest military exercise conducted between Australia and the United States. More than 100 paratroopers from 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, “Spartan Brigade,” based out of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, executed a parachute drop from Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster III aircraft onto a drop zone located in Northeastern Australia. “This is one of the large-scale activities that Exercise Talisman Sabre is renowned for,” said Australian Army Maj. Gen. Jake Ellwood, Deployable Joint Force Headquarters commander. “It’s a demonstration of immense skill by a highly-trained team, and a true test of our ability to operate together.”

The Paratroopers – known as the Spartan Brigade – are based in Alaska from the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division. Commander Deployable Joint Force Headquarters, Major General Jake Ellwood, said the Spartan Brigade executed a tactical manoeuvre from a Royal Australian Air Force C-17A Globemaster III aircraft. “This is one of the large-scale activities that Exercise Talisman Sabre is renowned for. 14 JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska – Leaving the heat, humidity and rain of the south and heading north for cooler temperatures, the 815th Airlift Squadron put their Reserve Citizen Airmen to the test in Alaska with both the temperatures and the terrain, July 13-16. Working with the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Airborne, 25th Infantry Division, the 815th AS provided airlift for more than over 1300 paratroopers for three days, as well as airdrops for heavy equipment on the fourth day during a training exercise at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. “Being able to operate effectively and efficiently in multiple climates and in different types of terrain is an important part of our training,” said Maj. George Metros, 815th AS instructor pilot and exercise mission commander.
