The Virginia City of Richmond announced late last week that its Resort Casino Evaluation Panel has entered the next phase of its ongoing casino selection process.
The unit has been assembled to assess proposals from companies interested to operate a Las Vegas-style casino resort in the city and recommend a preferred bidder to the Richmond City Council.
During its request for proposals process between December and February,
the city received six bids. It culled three of the proposed projects in March and eliminated a fourth one in late April. The Cordish Companies of Baltimore and a joint venture between media corporation Urban One and Colonial Downs are the only two offers left in the race for the gaming license.

Maggie Wolfendale-Morley in the paddock at Saratoga
NYRA TV paddock analyst and third-generation horsewoman Maggie Wolfendale-Morley s commitment to horses kicks into gear most mornings before dawn. Awakened by an early alarm, she often accompanies her husband, trainer Tom Morley, to the Belmont Park backstretch for training. Once there, Wolfendale-Morley gallops horses and assists around the barn – all the while checking in on the couple s two daughters, 4-year-old Grace and Willow, who just turned 1.
Afternoons can get busier. On racing days, Wolfendale-Morley is stationed in Belmont Park s paddock, where she offers the kind of pre-race analysis that has made her one of the most respected broadcasters in the game. The many responsibilities – ensuring that both she and Morley get time with their daughters while also preparing for each broadcast – leads to a packed schedule.

A group of Scott’s Addition residents in the Virginia City of Richmond on Monday walked out to protest the proposed development of a casino resort in the area.
Dozens of protesters stood along North Arthur Ashe Boulevard and West Leigh Street, the planned location of the casino, with signs in their hands and cow bells during the morning traffic rush to show their opposition to the mega-million scheme.
The Cordish Companies of Baltimore is the developer behind the project. The company has proposed to build a
$600 million hotel and casino resort in the heart of the city’s Scott’s Addition District. The property will have an easy access to I-64 and I-95.
