TORONTO Another long-term care in Hamilton is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak. Paula White, the executive director of Arbour Creek Long-Term Care Centre, confirmed to CP24 Sunday that 11 residents and four staff members have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. She said that all 15 cases are residing and working in the same area of the home. Hamilton Public Health declared an outbreak at the 128-bed facility located in the area of King Street East and Nash Road South last Friday. “Once the outbreak was declared, we quickly implemented other protocols that pertain directly to an outbreak including; cohorting staff and residents, enhanced cleaning, daily communication with residents, families, and staff, and daily calls with Public Health,” White said in a statement.

Ontario investigated 2 long-term care homes after accusing residents of negligently dying during the pandemic
Ontario is investigating two long-term care homes in Toronto. According to the Canadian military, the hospital died of negligence in the outbreak last year, not COVID-19.
Long-term care minister Merrilee Fullerton said that multiple inspectors are working with the coroner’s office at the Downsview Long-Term Care Center and Hawthorne Regional Care Center to interview staff and medical directors to verify that the residents died from dehydration. The ministry said that the inspectors visited the houses on Monday.
Fullerton said on Friday that the Coroner’s Office will determine whether there is sufficient evidence to call the police.

The Haliburton Highlands Health Services (HHHS) reports no residents and all remaining staff members at the Hyland Crest Long-Term Care Centre have tested negative for COVID-19.
The home was placed in an outbreak last week after one staff member tested positive for the virus. It was confirmed by HHHS that while the staff member tested positive for the coronavirus, they tested negative for any variants of concern.
“This news is shared with a sense of cautious optimism as we know that this testing provides us with an early snapshot of the situation and that we must remain extremely vigilant in our infection prevention and control practices,” HHHS officials say in a Facebook post. “HHHS will continue to closely monitor residents who will remain in isolation for the remainder of the outbreak.
