Technical Discussion: BRUTAL wind chills Monday morning!

9:00 PM UPDATE… There is a lot to talk about this evening!  First of all, record highs were shattered in Connecticut today.  The temperature reached 77 degrees at Bradley International Airport this afternoon, beating the previous March 26th record by 3 degrees.   It is a Greater Hartford record that stood for 99 years until today!  In Bridgeport, the record was shattered by 9 degrees!  The high was 79 degrees!  The previous record was 70 degrees, set in 1954.  Danbury was the warmest location in the state today with a high of 82 degrees. The other story is the wind.  Gusts to over 50 mph occurred in some locations.  There was a peak gust to 63 mph in New Haven early this evening!  There was a gust to 51 mph in Bridgeport.

Technical Discussion: Wind chills this morning are tough!

TONIGHT AND SUNDAY… Cloud cover will continue to expand across the state tonight ahead of our incoming low-pressure system. A few sprinkles may be possible while we’re asleep. Lows will dip into the 30s in the high terrain, but it looks like we’ll be just shy of any freezing temperatures. This will be our last period of calm conditions before the fierce weather on Sunday. SUNDAY & MONDAY… Most areas will receive a shower by the late Sunday morning. Heavier precipitation will be reserved for the afternoon. Showers will be on-and-off. However, the downpours will be enough to give everyone a soaking. Despite the low surface temperatures, embedded thunderstorms look possible in the afternoon.

Governor Cuomo Continues to Urge Caution as Extreme Cold Temperatures Are Forecast to Persist Across the State until Sunday Morning

WYSIWYG Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today continued to urge New Yorkers to use caution while outdoors this weekend as a polar vortex is forecast to continue funneling cold Arctic air into New York through Sunday morning. Temperatures are forecast to fall below zero in several upstate locations, with wind chills expected to plummet as low as 30 degrees below zero in the North Country, Mohawk Valley and Capital Region. Conditions are expected to last through Sunday morning, when residents in the Adirondacks will wake up to temperatures as low as -15 degrees. Temperatures like these increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia, as well as potentially causing water main breaks and pipe bursts from exposure to prolonged cold. Additionally, forecasters are also tracking a potential storm system moving up the east coast that could bring several inches of snow to New York, if it does not shift out to sea.
