Mother’s Day in 2020 was not a happy time in Carlsbad. We were in the middle of one of the most severe COVID-19 shutdown periods, and many local businesses were trying to figure out how they were going to survive the spring. We also didn’t know very much about the disease at the time, only that it appeared to be devastating to some members of our community.
This year, it’s wonderful seeing businesses back open and people out shopping for their moms. We also have a lot better understanding of COVID-19 this year, including a readily available vaccine. Over the last few months, people have been getting to visit all of the mothers and grandmothers they may have not seen during the previous year. Mother’s Day this 2021 is a time with a lot of hope on the horizon.

Carlsbad police are investigating a safety threat made on the Omni La Costa Resort in Carlsbad, the department confirmed.
A Carlsbad Police Department spokesperson said officers were responding to the resort at 2100 Costa Del Mar Road out of an abundance of caution.

CARLSBAD, Calif. Police cleared the scene Monday night after investigating a bomb threat at La Costa Resort & Spa, the Carlsbad Police Department reported. The response came after a suspicious phone call was made to the resort, according to a tweet from the agency.
At 7:40 p.m., police said the scene was cleared and the threat to the resort was found to be false.
Carlsbad Police thanked multiple agencies for their assistance including a California Highway Patrol K-9 unit from Oceanside, a Marine Corps K-9 unit, Carlsbad firefighters and San Diego sheriffs along with resort management and security.

CARLSBAD, Calif. City of Carlsbad and State Parks lifeguards responded to Carlsbad State Beach Thursday morning for a water rescue/drowning and found a man s body 40 to 50 yards offshore.
The man, believed to be between 45 and 55 years old, was found nude. The death investigation has been turned over to Carlsbad Police Department s Homicide Unit, Jorge Moreno, a spokesman with California State Parks, told News 8.
A spokesperson for the Carlsbad Police Department told News 8 that the Medical Examiner has taken the body and will identify the man as well as determine the cause of death.
