MLB trade deadline winners and losers: Yankees, Dodgers come out on top

Jul 30, 2021 Congratulations: You’ve made it through the MLB trade deadline in one piece. (Hopefully that was a wild one.) After a frenzied afternoon of deals, here are the winners, losers, and teams in between. Mets injury update: Jacob deGrom shut down for two weeks

Photo by Adam Hunger/Getty Images Shortly after the trade deadline passed, the Mets made it known that Jacob deGrom would be shut down for two weeks because of additional inflammation in his throwing arm, according to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. The Mets got the results of deGrom’s latest MRI several hours before the trade deadline this afternoon, but those results did not change their plans, as the only pitcher the acquired today was Trevor Williams. Simply put, the news is a major blow to the Mets’ hopes this season. Having opted not to do anything significant in terms of acquiring starting pitching, the Mets’ rotation is currently made up of Marcus Stroman, Taijuan Walker, Carlos Carrasco, Tylor Megill, and Rich Hill. That’s an improvement over the pitchers that started for the Mets in some recent turns through their rotation, but for however long deGrom is out, he will be missed.
