Carlyle Lake Increasing Downstream Releases

Effingham, IL / Effingham Radio Feb 1, 2021 1:33 PM Carlyle Lake, IL -(Effingham Radio)- As of 1:00 p.m. on Monday,1 February 2021 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 444.58 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 3,750 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Sunday, 31 January 2021 was approximately 10,260 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 445.5 feet NGVD on Wednesday, 3 February 2021. Releases will be increased to 6,000 cfs by Friday, 5 February 2021.      The Corps of Engineers continues to work closely with their partners, the Carlyle Lake Association, Mid-Kaskaskia River Association and the Okaw River Basin Coalition to monitor the situation. The friends birded together, covering counties north to south, their lists neck and neck for most of the year.

Eagle Watch Event At General Dean Recreation Area

Effingham, IL / Effingham Radio Jan 5, 2021 5:10 PM Carlyle Lake, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the annual Eagle Watch event at the General Dean Recreation Area between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 30th, 2021. The World Bird Sanctuary will have a live Bald Eagle on display for public viewing in a heated tent. Please visit any time during these hours to help prevent large gatherings. The event will be different from years prior and be a meet and greet style event. Masks will be required when entering the tent. The General Dean Recreation Area is also one of the best spots around Carlyle Lake to view Bald Eagles in their natural habitat. Those attending the event are encouraged to bring a mask, binoculars or spotting scope, and dress accordingly for the weather as it is an outdoor event.
