The Flying Scotsman locomotive will visit Cumbria in July

ONE of the most famous steam locomotives in the world is set to pay a visit to Cumbria later this year. The legendary Flying Scotsman will be passing through the county on Saturday, July 24, pulling a train from the Railway Touring Company. The Scotsman will pull the train from Doncaster to Carlisle via the Settle to Carlisle Railway, travelling over the Ribblehead Viaduct and over the Blea Moor Tunnel and to Dent, the highest main line station open in England. From there, it will climb to Ais Gill Summit, before descending through the valley at Mallerstang and dropping through Kirkby Stephen to Appleby, where the locomotive will take on water.
