The Omaha Engineer District and the city of Hamburg, Iowa, signed a Section 1176 project agreement February 10 that will allow for raising the Hamburg Ditch 6 levee 8 feet, significantly increasing the benefits the levee provides to the city.
The agreement came after the Omaha District, city and other stakeholders worked with Corps Headquarters and the Northwestern Engineer Division to implement the Section 1176 authority from the 2020 Water Resources Development Act. This is the first project across the nation to utilize the Section 1176 authority to raise the height of a federal levee system.

US Naval Academy taps Marine Corps artillery officer as next commandant of midshipmen A new commandant is coming to the U.S. Naval Academy this year. Col. James “J.P.” McDonough III, a Marine Corps artillery officer and 1994 graduate of the service academy, has been tapped to serve as the 89th commandant of midshipmen, the Naval Academy announced Jan. 19. He will take the reins from Capt. Thomas R. “T.R.” Buchanan, who will wrap up his two-year stint as commandant this summer. “I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected for this position and am excited to join the great team at the Naval Academy,” McDonough said in a news release. “I look forward to the opportunity to help shape the Brigade of Midshipmen as they become the future leaders of the Navy and Marine Corps.”

PESHAWAR: Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa has said that Pakistan would continue supporting the ongoing intra-Afghan dialogue as peace in the neighbouring country means peace in Pakistan.
Talking to officers here at Corps Headquarters on Friday, Gen Bajwa highlighted the dividend of border control measures.
According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement, the army chief was given an update at Corps Headquarters on the security situation, border management including fencing, capacity enhancement of Frontier Corps and police in merged districts as a result of transition to stability.
