The News Journal Veach gets five years for being convicted felon possessing guns – The News Journal

A Newcomb, Tennessee, man was recently sentenced to five years in prison for being a convicted felon in possession of illegal firearms. Jason B. Veach, 41, pleaded guilty during the later portion of 2020 in Whitley Circuit Court to one count of possession of hand gun by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Veach was sentenced to five years on each count that were ordered to be served concurrently, or at the same time, resulting in a total of five years. As part of Veach’s plea deal, a second-degree persistent felony offender charge was dismissed.

Williamsburg police, fire chiefs give annual reports

By Jarrod Mills Staff Writer Mar 16, 2021 Mar 16, 2021 WILLIAMSBURG - The Williamsburg City Council heard annual reports from both Police Chief Wayne Bird and Fire Chief Larry Todd during its meeting Monday evening. Bird started off the presentations, reporting that 9,711 calls were answered by his department last year. The Williamsburg Police Department issued 1,136 citations, and made 93 DUI arrests. Bird said the 93 DUI arrests were an increase from 2019, and that the majority of that figure was made up of college-aged people. WPD had 860 criminal arrest in 2020, issued 308 citations for seatbelt violations, and 61 speeding citations. The department opened 160 felony criminal cases last year. They responded to 97 vehicle incidents, 18 of which resulted in injuries.

Brock appears in court for evidentiary hearing

By Jarrod Mills Staff Writer Mar 12, 2021 Paul Brock WHITLEY COUNTY - After technical issues prevented the court from continuing with a hearing Monday morning via Zoom, a Corbin man currently facing four counts of murder and tampering with physical evidence appeared in-person before Judge Dan Ballou alongside his attorneys for an evidentiary hearing Tuesday morning. Paul Brock, 40, had a motion filed on his behalf by his attorney, Andrea Kendall, to have the indictment against him dismissed. Kendall says the Corbin Police Department had failed to collect evidence pertinent to Brock s case. On Tuesday, Kendall began questioning CPD Detective Coy Wilson on the happenings of Feb. 17, 2018, the day on which Mary Jackson, 74, and her pregnant granddaughter, Tiffany Byers, 33, were found shot to death at an Ellison Street residence in Corbin.

The News Journal » Traffic slightly detoured after two-vehicle accident

Traffic on 18 th Street in front of Owens Auto & Truck Service was  detoured briefly on Wednesday after a two-vehicle accident blocked the road around noon. Corbin Fire Department Battalion Chief Chad Jackson said the call initially came in with injuries, but once crews arrived on the scene, both drivers told crews that they were okay and did not want to go to the hospital. The cause of the accident is under investigation by Corbin Police. Corbin Police Department, Whitley County EMS and the Corbin Fire Department all responded to the accident. About the Author
