Gerald R. Beasley, the Carl A. Kroch University Librarian, has announced he will not seek to renew his five-year term when it ends July 31, 2022.
Beasley is Cornell’s 12th university librarian. He began his term Aug. 1, 2017 after serving for four years as vice provost and chief librarian at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Carla DeMello/Provided

“Working here as university librarian with such great people and great collections is truly an honor and a privilege,” Beasley said. “Leaving Cornell at the end of July 2022 would mean fulfilling a plan developed by me and my family a while back to return to Canada after five years.”

The Moderate Left vs. the Extreme Left

referring, of course, to the extreme leftism of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
In the piece, Steven Malanga argues that New York City’s labor unions are opposing AOC because she’s too left-wing for them. And this issue matters most immediately because the nation’s largest and most influential city will elect a new mayor this year. AOC herself is not a candidate, but she will seek to help elect a like-minded comrade.
March 8 event to elevate women artists on Wikipedia

On International Women’s Day, Cornellians are joining a global effort to raise the visibility of women artists, writers, and performers on Wikipedia. Whether experienced or unfamiliar with Wikipedia editing, anyone interested in making a difference through research is invited to participate in the Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon, conducted via Zoom from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on March 8.
For just half an hour or for the entire duration of the event, participants can edit or create a biographical entry or just a footnote, or help check facts or upload images, with guidance from members of Cornell University Library and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art who are co-organizing the edit-a-thon.
