MAMAKATING - State police said a driver is suspected of striking and killing a female pedestrian while he was drunk on Mamakating Road Wednesday night.
State police said the initial investigation indicated the victim, Tamika Zambrano, 39, of Bloomingburg was walking against the flow of traffic on Mamakating Road shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a red sport utility vehicle.
However, subsequent investigation determined Zambrano was walking with the flow of traffic.
State police said a witness saw the red SUV strike Zambrano and then speed off toward Wurtsboro. A nurse who was in the area immediately gave first aid to Zambrano, and 911 was notified. Zambrano was transportd by emergency medical services workers to Garnet Medical Center in Harris, where she died of her injuries.

Updated on:Apr 27, 2021, 5:27pm EDT We appreciate everyone who gave, and it was really heartwarming that perfect strangers would give to this after hearing Alyssa s story, and I credit News 12 for getting the story out there, says Tony Ferrara, of Monroe.
Ferrara, a family friend, says that since News 12 s story ran last week about 21-year-old Alyssa Tocyloski s seemingly sudden death at Garnet Medical Center in Wallkill, more than $12,000 has been raised. The money will help the Chester woman s baby, boyfriend and parents – who are now caring for her little girl.
