Below are details of the $56 million allocated to CMS:
$56 million is conditionally allocated to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and can be expended once the district provides an educational attainment plan to the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners that articulates the district’s plan for the spending of County dollars to address gaps in educational attainment. The plan should include quantifiable goals, strategies, targets, and timeframes to:
Improve the performance of the 42 low performing schools within the school district
Improve performance scores and grades for all individual disaggregated subgroups including economically disadvantaged students and students from major racial and ethnic groups
Ensure that that at least 75% of students within all demographic subgroups graduate with at least one State endorsement by the end of the 2024 school year
A third county — Stanly — has been given permission by state Health Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen to leave Cardinal Innovations as its behavioral health managed care organization.
A $110,000 grant to GreenTree Peer Center is aimed at improving how patients with behavioral health issues â including the uninsured, under-insured and the homeless â are served in hospital emergency departments.
Cardinal currently oversees providers for mental health, substance abuse and developmental-disabilities services in 20 counties for more than 800,000 North Carolinians utilizing federal and state Medicaid funds.
Cardinalâs network includes Alamance, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Rockingham and Stokes counties in the Triad.
For those individuals, hospital emergency rooms are the first â and sometimes only â option for treating behavioral conditions.
The goal with grant is improving support and care âthat these patients need in a setting more conducive to their recovery and overall wellbeing,â the groups said.
