Damage to overhead electric wires above the railway line blocked lanes and caused severe delays for hours between Cardiff and Newport.
A lengthy inspection of the wires had to be carried out by Network Rail staff on Monday, May 10, and trains between the two stations were disrupted for four hours.
It added to the frustration for rail passengers as services between Swansea and London Paddington were also severely disrupted after cracks were found on trains.
