Cullohill resident appointed Deputy Garda Commissioner Reporter: A Cullohill resident has been appointed Deputy Garda Commissioner. Anne Marie McMahon was appointed by the Government on Tuesday, February 9 alongside Dr Shawna Coxon following a competition run by the Policing Authority. Anne Marie McMahon will take up the role of Deputy Commissioner, Policing and Security in March. Dr Shawna Coxon will take up the role of Deputy Commissioner, Governance, Strategy and Performance when she joins the organisation in April 2021. Anne Marie McMahon was Acting Deputy Commissioner, Governance, Strategy and Performance, An Garda Síochána.  Anne Marie has served in An Garda Síochána since 1986 in a variety of roles including Assistant Commissioner, Southern Region; Head of Training in the Garda College; Chief Superintendent, Community Engagement; and Superintendent, Bruff and Roxboro Districts. Anne Marie also served with the UN mission in Cambodia in 1993.

West Clare woman becomes deputy Garda commissioner February 9, 2021 By Fiona McGarry A KILMURRY McMahon native has been appointed as one of two new deputy commissioners of An Garda Síochána. Anne Marie McMahon was appointed to the role on an interim basis last March and, now that she had been formally appointed, makes history as one of the highest ranking female members of the force. Ms McMahon joined the Gardai in 1986 and was stationed at Coolock Garda Station, Dublin and Henry Street in Limerick. In the early ‘90s, she served with a United Nations mission in Cambodia and in 1995 was promoted to sergeant and instructor at the Student Probationer School, Garda College. Between 1997 and 2002, she served as Operational /Community Policing Sergeant in Henry Street District.

Irish police dance challenge notches over a million views

An Garda Siochana filmed the Jerusalema dance in various locations across Ireland after they were challenged to do so by Swiss police. The video sees officers dancing two metres apart to the song Jerusalema by South African musician Master KG – part of a viral trend performed by various businesses and collectives across the world, from Swiss police to Austrian Airlines. The Gardai version includes Irish dance and even some police horses, and was organised by Garda Mary Gardiner from Tralee, County Kerry.
