HAVING started his career in Cork’s libraries before working in recent years as the RAPID co-ordinator on Cork’s northside in the communities of Mayfield, Blackpool, the Glen and Fairhill/Farranree, David O’Brien is returning to the library service.
He has been appointed as the new city librarian, replacing Liam Ronayne who retired at the end of 2020. David, 60, a west Cork man from Lisavaird, was a key member of Cork City’s Covid Community Response Forum over the last year.

GARDAÍ have launched an investigation into a fire onboard the MV Alta the former ghost ship now on rocks near Ballycotton, Co Cork.
Firefighters from Cork County Council fought a blaze that broke out yesterday evening and reported they had substantially extinguished the blaze last night.

THE FIRE BRIGADE has “substantially extinguished” a blaze onboard the wreck of the former ‘ghost ship’ the MV Alta near Ballycotton in County Cork.
Smoke was spotted coming from the bridge area of the ship earlier today and firefighters have responded.
Cork County Council has just issued a statement updating the situation at the scene.
