Rangers of the New Republic was halted. Lucasfilm didn’t even make a public announcement, with the reveal being buried in an article concerning Dave Filoni’s promotion to Executive Creative Director instead.
Rangers of the New Republic getting put on ice is probably the exact same one as why they’ve stopped moving forward on the project, namely Gina Carano. The former Cara Dune was a lightning rod for controversy on social media, culminating in the Mouse House severing all ties with the actress and ex-MMA fighter after she crossed a line in the eyes of the top brass.

Rangers originally announced in December of 2020 was actually about, or who it might star. (Possibly because it was still trying to figure out if the situation with Carano, who it fired in February of 2021 over her frequently inflammatory social media presence, was salvageable.) The Disney Plus show was first announced in 2020 at Disney s Investor s Day event. It was speculated to focus on Gina Carano s Cara Dune – if that was the case, it wouldn t be all that surprising that the project seems to have been at least temporarily shelved, as Carano and Lucasfilm s working relationship recently came to an end after controversial social media posts from the actor. Carano was also reported to have had her own canceled spin-off.
