Christ To Step Down As State Health Director

Credit AP Arizona Health Services Director Cara Christ announced today she will leave her position as the state’s top health official to become Chief Medical Officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. She is an infectious disease epidemiologist. Christ is the state’s longest serving health director, assuming the role in 2015. She intends to leave the position at the end of August. Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) Director Dr. Cara Christ will leave her position on Aug. 27 for a leadership role as chief medical officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. The news was announced in a press release from Gov. Doug Ducey’s office, in which he said Christ had been instrumental in the state’s COVID-19 response. “When Cara Christ became a doctor, she did it to help others and save lives.
