Island sees spike of 101 COVID-19 cases The 101 new confirmed positive results is the highest weekly total this year. The Island saw the largest number of cases for a 7-day period since the start of 2021 last week. Confirmed cases of COVID-19 skyrocketed last week with the Martha’s Vineyard boards of health reporting 101 new cases between March 28 and April 3. The 101 new cases are more than double the 47 new cases reported during the week of March 21 to 27 and more than the next highest weekly total this year which was 99 cases reported during the first week of January.  Clusters of cases continue to appear and grow across the Island with a new nine-person cluster connected to cases at the Barn Bowl & Bistro. According to a Facebook post, that restaurant remains closed for the next few days. A cluster at Shirley’s Hardware has grown to six cases and a cluster of cases linked to King’s Barbershop grew to eight.

In a brief decision posted Monday, the judges stated, “The petition for rehearing having been denied by the panel of judges who decided the case, and the petition for rehearing en banc having been submitted to the active judges of this court and a majority of the judges not having voted that the case be heard en banc, it is ordered that the petition for rehearing and the petition for rehearing en banc be denied,” the decision states.

Charlie Baker on Wednesday announced a timeline for all Bay State residents to get their COVID-19 vaccines. Starting on Monday, March 22, individuals 60 and older will be eligible, along with individuals who work with the public. People who work in transit, grocery stores, utilities, food and agriculture, sanitation, and public works, and public health workers, become eligible to sign up on Monday. The next group eligible, beginning April 5, will be individuals over the age of 55 and individuals with one chronic medical condition.
