Survey out to gauge community safety

Residents of Grey and Bruce Counties are able to take part in a survey now available online. The Counties Advisory Committee spent last year (2020) analyzing data, reviewing community assets and understanding resident perception of risks to safety of well-being through a previous survey. This resulted in the Regional Community Safety and Well-Being Plan and was approved by both county councils. This current survey looks to connect with residents and gauge perceptions regarding community safety and identify members of the public who are impacted by specific areas of risk. The information gathered a year ago will provide a baseline to help identify who has been most impacted so efforts can be focused where they are needed most.

Parents reminded of dangerous waterways this time of year

Article content Every year we hear the terrifying and sometime tragic news that someone has been on or near what they thought were safe waterways. Floods can occur at any time of the year. However, the risks of flooding are higher in the spring with increased water levels from snowmelt and frozen or saturated soils. Further, at this time of the year temperatures rise above freezing and the sun’s rays are stronger making ice safety unpredictable. Generally, March and April in Grey and Bruce Counties are not appropriate months to be on the ice with its thickness being questionable. Of additional concern is the fast moving, cold water. Children are naturally drawn to water and with the cold temperatures, unpredictable ice conditions and slippery banks, this could spell disaster.
