Tories take Southampton
The Conservatives gained seven seats to hold 25 of Southampton City Council’s 48 seats, with Labour on 23.
Conservatives make inroads in Rotherham
The Tories came from nowhere – they had no seats before – to become a serious rival to Labour in the South Yorkshire metropolitan borough. The new chamber has 20 Conservatives and 32 Labour councillors.

Convicted killer Blais Delaire will remain in custody pending an appeal of his manslaughter conviction this fall.
Justice Bruce McDonald ruled Monday that Delaire hadn’t established a change of circumstances that could convince the appeal judge to overturn his earlier decision detaining Delaire.

McDonald said the only change since his decision last Oct. 20 was that Delaire has since scheduled a date for his manslaughter appeal, regarding his role in the double murders of two men in a Real Canadian Superstore parking lot.
