One third of the 10 million residents of Los Angeles County have been struck by coronavirus, scientists believe - an astonishing sign of how rapidly the virus is spreading in the hard-hit US region.
Hospitals throughout Riverside County are contending with bed shortages, and some have reached their limit, but others are continuing to open up space wherever they can find it amid the current coronavirus surge, Emergency Management Director Bruce Barton told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

We have 3,322 patients in our hospitals, and we re at 91% of licensed capacity, Barton said, adding that of the current patient load countywide, roughly half are COVID-19 cases.

Riverside County health officials Monday reported 8,434 newly confirmed coronavirus cases from over the weekend, along with 32 additional COVID-19 deaths and an overall reduction in active cases.

(Tribune News Service) Twenty U.S. defense department medical personnel have been sent to help Riverside University Health System Medical Center handle the continuing surge of coronavirus patients, Riverside County officials said Friday, Jan. 8. The team consists of active-duty physicians assistants, nurses, and respiratory care practitioners from the Army and Air Force and is part of a state request to the Federal Emergency Management Agency to support hospitals statewide, a county news release states.
