Chelsea back in top four, but Super League drama overshadows Brighton draw

Chelsea moved into the Premier League s top four after a 0-0 draw against Brighton on Tuesday, but the result was completely overshadowed by the club s role in derailing the controversial European Super League.
Just before kick-off at Stamford Bridge, it was widely reported that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had decided to withdraw from the controversial breakaway plan.
While there was no official confirmation from the club, the Blues are understood to be preparing documents to formally quit the tournament.

Gary Neville ordered huge repercussions for Chelsea and the other five Premier League clubs for their involvement in the European Super League.
Passionately speaking on Sky Sports last night, Neville reacted to the news that Chelsea and Manchester City had withdrawn their name from the formation of this controversial competition.
Although it was a noticeable step towards abolishing this project, the former Manchester United defender felt that there needed to be consequences for those teams concerned.

The English ‘Big Six’ had agreed to join the new league alongside Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, and the two Milan clubs.
But following Monday night’s drama the proposed league – which was due to have 15 permanent members with five others qualifying each season – lies in tatters.
In a statement early on Wednesday, the Super League said it was considering “appropriate steps to reshape the project” but when asked by Reuters on Wednesday morning if the league could continue, Juventus chairman Andrea Agnelli – a Super League vice-chairman – said: “To be frank and honest no, evidently that is not the case.”
