GREEN RIVER The Green River High School welding program, in cooperation with Western Wyoming Community College, held its first In-House Welding Contest last week, in which students competed and even received scholarships.
Students from the Advanced Welding Classes were eligible to compete. The event was held April 29 and 30, and consisted of a written portion and a practical weld out examination.
The written exam was administered on Thursday, April 29 and involved 115 general welding knowledge questions and fifteen questions regarding print reading and fabrication.

The practical exam took place on Friday, April 30 where the students were provided four rough cut stock items and a blueprint. They had three hours to complete the practical weld out. The completed practical was judged on layout, instructional accuracy and weld quality.

RIC team talking AgriStarter Loan at Beef 2021, 2
The Regional Investment Corporation (RIC) is pleased to join the line-up at Beef 2021 in Rockhampton this week to provide information and answer questions on its loans, including the new AgriStarter Loan for new farmers and succession planning.
CEO Bruce King said he is looking forward meeting with the beef industry and talking about how RIC loans might benefit their farm business by improving their resilience, profitability or providing a long-term option for succession planning.
“We know succession planning is an essential part of many inter-generational beef operations and it’s important to get it right, which is where our AgriStarter Loan might be able to assist,” he said.
“You can speak pretty freely as an independent,” Dunn told the Journal.
Although few independent candidates have ever been elected to the U.S. Congress, there are some exceptions, including U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who was first elected to the U.S. House as an independent in 1990.
And Dunn, a rancher and retired banker, said the unique circumstances surrounding the special election to fill New Mexico’s open 1st Congressional District seat could increase the chances of a political upset in the Democratic-leaning district.
“I don’t think anybody has any idea what’s going to happen,” he said in an interview.
