Donald Trump and the people who gave us a Constitution and a country deserve much better. They deserve heartfelt thanks, not vilification.
Donald Trump s domestic political enemies targeted him while he became a presidential aspirant and will continue to do so as long as he lives and a while longer if they can.
The United States Constitution begins with a statement of purpose: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
While an acquittal is likely, say analysts, former President Donald Trump s lawyers will have to mount a defense without offending the senators who were themselves victims of the Capitol riot.

Donald Trump s impeachment will head to a trial in the US Senate this week, although it s unlikely there will be enough votes to convict the former president.
The US House of Representatives has already impeached Mr Trump, but he is yet to be convicted a step that would bar him from holding office again.
For Mr Trump to be convicted, two-thirds of the US Senate would have to vote in favour of it, which is a high bar to clear.
Arguments begin on Tuesday in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump on allegations that he incited the violent mob that stormed the US Capitol on January 6.
