More than 8,000 University community members gave to support a range of programs and departments

On April 7, the BU community came together online for the University’s seventh annual Giving Day raising more than $2.96 million for causes and programs across the University. This was the first Giving Day since 2019: last year’s was canceled by the pandemic.
This year’s
events brought gifts from 8,802 alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends, from 49 states and 45 countries. All told, they supported more than 420 areas at BU, from schools and colleges to athletics, student life, and more.

If the last year taught us anything, it’s that working from home and meetings by Zoom have undeniable benefits along with serious drawbacks. Flexible schedules, more family time, and cost savings on commuting have been a blessing for many. But trying to work while kids are remote-schooling, the monotony of virtual meetings, and the absence of personal interactions have proved exhausting for others.

The past months of separation helped me better appreciate what we shared and what we still share now. I can confidently say that I never knew this type of love until we met. Not to say that I wasn’t a complete person before, but you do elevate me. The world can be a tough place, and what’s happening nowadays has been rough for us. Just remember that I’ll always be there for you. Together, we are a place that I find comfort and joy in. Sending you virtual hugs and kisses every day. Take care of yourself and eat plenty of good food, until we can take better care of each other and share good food once again.

The MBTA’s Green Line B Branch Station Consolidation Project along the West Campus stretch of Commonwealth Avenue begins in earnest on February 15, with night and weekend trolley service shifting to shuttle buses over the following three weeks.
The $29 million project, part of the ongoing Green Line Transformation, will consolidate four stops BU West, St. Paul Street, Pleasant Street, and Babcock Street into two larger, significantly improved ones, with new lighting, signage, and shelters and better accessibility. The new stations will be named Babcock Street (between the current Babcock and Pleasant stations) and Amory Street (between St. Paul and BU West)
