Razak El-Alawa laid to rest

705 The remains of veteran journalist Alhaji Razak El-Alawa were buried in Kumasi yesterday in line with Muslim funeral traditions. A quintessential journalist, who was a columnist of the Daily Graphic, he died in Accra last Monday, aged 76. He was a record three-time winner of the Ghana Journalists Association’s (GJA) Journalist Of the Year, having won the coveted prize in 1975, 1976 and 1978. He was also the runner-up in 1977. For winning the GJA Journalist of the Year in 1978, Alhaji El-Alawa was sponsored by UAC for a trip to Liverpool, United Kingdom. His weekly column in Saturday s Daily Graphic titled Reflections was the favourite of many readers.

While the former has a retributive cynicism to it, the latter strikes me for its seeming lack of ambiguity. It is for this reason that I invoke it as a heading to enable me explore the question of what is a fact, and its corollary of whether or not there are “false facts”. By extension, it hints at whether or not it requires that the teller of truth owe it to his/her intended audience to disclose the truth about a fact.

We re not against Commonwealth annex project; be wary of your actions – UG lectures to rioting students By Eric Nana Yaw Kwafo LISTEN FEB 5, 2021 Faculty members of the University of Ghana (UG) have through a letter indicated that they are not against the construction of the Commonwealth Annex Hall as claimed by members of the Commonwealth Halls. They are advising rioting students to be wary of the actions they take. The Commonwealth Hall Annex is a project being spearheaded by the Alumni of the Commonwealth Hall of the University. The project when completed will have a fully-furnished 4,660-bed capacity, together with an 8,000 capacity auditorium, and a shopping mall.
