Senate poised to vote on no-fault repeal

Senate poised to vote on no-fault repeal Stock image via Adobe. The move could raise rates by $165 to $876 a year. Despite warnings from insurers and health care providers, the Senate is scheduled to take up a bill to repeal Florida no-fault auto insurance system as soon as today. The bill ( SB 54) would end the requirement that Floridians purchase $10,000 in personal injury protection (PIP) coverage and would instead require mandatory bodily injury (MBI) coverage that would pay out up to $25,000 for a crash-related injury or death. PIP coverage pays out regardless of which party is responsible for an accident hence “no fault” and it does so quickly. MBI coverage, however, doesn’t pay out until a fault determination is made, which can leave health care providers or patients on the hook for thousands of dollars in medical bills while they wait for a claim to resolve.

Industry experts consider a result of anything less than three stars to be below the acceptable level for a modern car.

How Much Car Insurance Do You Really Need?

WKBT April 12, 2021 8:00 AM Ben Moore Posted: Updated: Getty Images Choosing the right amount of car insurance can be tricky. While your state probably requires some coverage, you may find yourself wondering if it’s enough, or if you should buy more. There’s no quick and easy answer. While you’re obligated to get the minimum amount of car insurance required to drive in your state, how much you purchase beyond that should depend on your own financial situation. Protect your wallet with sufficient liability coverage The main component of car insurance  liability coverage doesn’t pay you if you cause a crash. Instead, it pays for injuries, deaths and property damage you cause, up to your policy’s limits. Liability limits are often listed in a format such as “25/50/15,” which means your insurer will pay $25,000 per person and $50,000 per wreck for injuries you’re responsible for, and up to $15,000 for property damage you cause.
