HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – A thunderstorm and hailstorm caused power outages and some damage as it blew through Horry County on Monday night.
In Conway, crews worked to clear a tree that came down in the southbound lanes of Highway 501 near Conway High School. Drivers were told to avoid the area.

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – Officers with the Conway Police Department will conduct public safety checkpoints through the month of May, a post on the department’s Facebook page states.
The checkpoints are being put into place to deter driving under the influence and aggressive driving, officials said.
They also help officers make sure drivers have a valid license and liability insurance, the post stated.
According to the CPD, the safety checkpoints will be conducted on different dates, times and locations throughout the month of May.
“You go to get help and then.you die. I mean, how does that happen,” is the question asked by Ujima Stewart, whose brother Tauheed Rashad Raullerson became one of the people we found who called for help or went to get help and wound up dead. “I m just angry because I feel like it s happening so much and nobody s doing anything about it.”
Her brother, who goes by Rashad, travelled to Arkansas to be with his large family over Thanksgiving in 2018, but he forgot his medication for bipolar disorder. He went to a hospital to try and get some, but they transferred him on to The Bridgeway mental health treatment center.

CONWAY, S.C. (WMBF) – Traffic on the Main Street bridge in downtown Conway is gridlocked as a result of a Thursday morning crash, police said.
According to information from the Conway Police Department, the two-vehicle crash happened on the U.S. 501 Bypass by Lake Busbee.
There is no word on any possible injuries.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area at all cost.
