A 20-year-old unemployed, Cobbina Freeman, has been arrested on Monday for attempting to smuggle four parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp to Ankaful Maximum Prison in Cape Coast.
The suspected narcotic substance was to be delivered to one Kojo Arko who is already serving an 11-year jail term in hard labour for defilement.
Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Prisons Service, Superintendent Vincent Ziniel, confirmed the arrest to the Ghana News Agency.
Narrating the incident that led to the arrest, he said some prison inmates were sent to do external labour around the Prison’s clinic at Ankaful Prisons Complex.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has issued a raft of promotions that run through the topmost positions to the rank and file in the Ghana Prisons Service (GPS).
The President gave the approval for the promotions last Tuesday on the advice of the Prisons Service Council, in accordance with Article 207(3) of the 1992 Constitution.
New departments
The service has also created two new directorates Agriculture, which has been decoupled from Operations, and Health.
A statement signed by the Chief Public Relations Officer of the GPC, Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) Courage Atsem, said the Director of Prisons (DOP), Mr Isaac Kofi Egyir, has now been promoted to Deputy Director-General of Prisons (DDGP) in charge of Operations.

The waste management company, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has stepped up its disinfection of facilities and institutions as part of efforts to help deal with the surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
The exercise, which forms part of Zoomlion’s corporate social responsibility and is dubbed: “Free community disinfection campaign”, is to help combat the new variant of the virus head-on and rid facilities that receive with many people of any COVID-19 inclinations.
The latest beneficiaries of the exercise are the Head Office of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), the Headquarters of the Ghana Prisons Service and the Nsawam Prison.

The headquarters of the Ghana Prisons Service in the La Dadetokopon Municipality of the Greater Accra Region has benefited from Zoomlion’s Free Community Disinfection exercise which was launched recently.
The exercise, which was carried out yesterday, was to help deal with any COVID-19 tendencies at the state facility.
The Coordinator for the exercise, Mrs Lola Asiseh Ashitey, told journalists that her outfit had voted GH¢2 million for the one week operation.

Last Thursday s exercise saw Zoomlion’s disinfection crew with hand-held spraying machines disinfecting offices and surfaces of the Prisons Service headquarters.
