Five persons including a chief and a soldier have been arrested in the Eastern Region for their alleged involvement in land guard activities.
Also suspected to be involved in robbery activities, the suspects were arrested by the National Operation Department of the Ghana Police Service.
They included Sergeant Isaac Asare of the Ghana Air Force who is believed to be a supplier of arms and ammunition to the gang, and Nana Baah, alias Haruna, said to be a sub chief of Kyebi Apapam and the sponsor of the gang.
The rest are Phillip Kwadwo Larbi,42, Abass Baah, 36, and Edward Kwafo, 35.

Four suspected armed robbers have been killed in a shootout with the police at Ntoaso, a suburb of Nsawam, in the Eastern Region
The armed robbers, also suspected to be land guards, are yet to be identified, but the bodies have been taken to the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation.
However, five persons, including a military man and a sub-chief of Kyeibi-Apapam, who were allegedly together with the armed robbers during the shootout in an uncompleted building, have been grabbed to assist in investigations.
They are Philip Kwadwo Larbi,42, Abass Baah, 36, Edward Kwafo, 35, Sergeant (Sgt) Isaac Asare of the Ghana Air force and Nana Baah alias Haruna, the sub-chief.
Unlike previous attempts to flush out illegal miners from Ghana’s water bodies and forest reserves, the government has announced that all equipment that will be seized under a new effort to end galamsey will be destroyed on-site.

The operation which involves the deployment of 200 military personnel started last Wednesday and already nine excavators, 127 changfans (washing machines), and one fuel pump which were being used for illegal mining in the river Pra have destroyed [detonated] by the military.
The exercise on the Pra dubbed “Operation Halt” ended Thursday and it also resulted in the arrest of two Chinese nationals at Anttieku near Twifo Praso in the Central Region for illegally mining in a forest reserve.
The Ghana Navy has developed a revised strategic plan dubbed: Agenda 2024 to maintain a modern robust Force capable of defending the country against sea-borne threats.
The plan includes achieving total surveillance coverage through increased monitoring at Maritime Operations Centres, modernising the Navy by leveraging technology for its operations, enhancing the welfare of sailors, and collaboration with stakeholders and international partners.
Real Admiral Issah Adams Yakubu, the Chief of Navy Staff, announced this on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a two-day Chief of the Naval Staff s annual conference in Accra.
The conference is on the theme: Adopting Resourceful and Innovative Measures to Transform the Ghana Navy into a Modern and Robust Naval Force.
