Educators of the year honored by Monroe school board

When the Monroe Township School District Board of Education convened for a general meeting the evening of May 10, its members began with a presentation honoring the teacher and educational services professional of the year, as they do every year.
The Governor’s Educators of the Year were as follows: Applegarth Elementary School fifth grade teacher Danielle Mazza and media specialist Elisa Varon; Barclay Brook School second grade teacher Kristin Miller and reading specialist Stacy Blum; Brookside School third grade teacher Kimberly Bertini and math interventionist Lisa Zimmer; Mill Lake School first grade teacher Lisa Papandrea and nurse Kris Cauda; Monroe Township High School special education teacher Christina Basile and speech therapist Zaharo Plawner; Monroe Township Middle School math teacher Kristie Zimmermann and counselor Taryn Yoe

STREATOR – A Woodland student was awarded the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office scholarship from the Illinois Sheriffs’ Association. Sheriff Tony O. Childress announced that Audrey Jenkins won the $500 scholarship fund for the 2021-22 academic year. Childress noted that Jenkins demonstrated outstanding scholastic accomplishments, extra-curricular activities, and exemplary character traits.

Carman-Ainsworth schools extends remote learning for another week

Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools announced it would be going back to remote learning April 5.

FLINT TWP., MI Carman-Ainsworth Community Schools will continue virtual learning for another week after originally shutting down in-person operations April 6.
The school district will remain in remote learning until at least Monday, April 26, according to an update from Superintendent Eddie Kindle.
The decision was made due to Genesee County’s Level E COVID-19 risk category on the MI Safe Start Map, Kindle said. The original remote learning period was scheduled to end today.
