HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WDAM) - Just in time for American Heart Health month, Merit Health Wesley has opened a newly rebuilt Cardiac Catheterization Lab. A cardiac cath exam provides information on how well a patient’s heart works. It can identify problems and allow for procedures to open blocked arteries and combat other forms of heart disease.
The $1.6 million dollar lab offers state-of-the-art technology.
“It’s a high-quality imaging lab certainly,” cardiologist Allen Covin said. “One of the main benefits is there’s a lot lower radiation to the patient and to the staff, that’s probably the main benefit with the imaging and the quality.”
A Gorey mother of a poorly little boy says she has been overwhelmed by the public response to a campaign to help her family.
Over €28,000 has been raised for four-and-a-half-month-old Conor Joseph Grehan through the Caring For Conor campaign set up by Conor s proud godmother, Gorey s Joy Quigley. Over 60 people opted to complete a 5km walk or run in aid of Caring for Conor and the money raised will go towards the little boy s medical bills, with the rest donated to Crumlin Children s Hospital.
Conor s mother Marie Kennedy has thanked everyone who had supported the cause. Nobody wants to have to rely on their family, friends, neighbours or strangers to help them financially but then the messages of support started rolling in and that was when we realised that people wanted to help us even if we didn t want the help.

The Chief Minister of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan on Tuesday launched the Sehat Card Plus scheme for the entire population of Mardan district.
During his one day visit to Mardan, he also inaugurated various developmental schemes including the Safe City Project and the administration block and gymnasium at Bacha Khan Medical Complex.
Terming the Sehat Card Plus scheme as a flagship project of the provincial government, CM Mahmood said that the project was a historical achievement towards the accomplishment of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s vision of a welfare state.

It’s been confirmed that the new second permanent Cath Lab to be constructed at University Hospital Waterford will provide interventional services, according to a Waterford Senator.
Campaign groups had hit out at the government following a Parliamentary Question which stated that the “preferred option for the development of the second Cath Laboratory at UHW is for the lab on the roof of the existing Cardiology Department, which will operate five days a week and provide diagnostic services only”.
The South East Patient Advocacy Group (SEPAG) and 24/7 Cardiac Cover for the South East said this was “both preposterous and absurd. We were promised a 24/7 PPCI service at UHW. In order for same to be implemented, would require two cath labs, fully equipped to carry out both diagnostics and PPCI procedures, which is what we were promised because one interventional cath lab is a single point of failure”.

According to Megan Simpson, a communication specialist at Adventist Health, a woman was at the lab to undergo a procedure when she suddenly became afraid and panicked. I have a bad feeling; I don t want to die, she said.
