Four separate departments at Alton Memorial Hospital were recently recognized with top awards from national health care research leader Professional Research Consultants Inc (PRC). The Digestive Health Center earned a Top Performer award from the organization.

The AMH Human Motion Institute, the Cardiac Cath Lab and the Alton Multispecialists Pediatrics all received ‘5-Star’ awards, which put those departments in the 80
th percentile in their fields. PRC has been around for over 35 years issuing reports for consumers. They conduct their research through thousands of interviews measuring community perceptions, brand positions, patient experience, physician alignment and employee engagement.
Construction work on the second Catheterisation Laboratory for University Hospital Waterford (UHW) will begin later this month.
The project will start on Monday May 17th and is expected to take 13 months to complete.
It will be built by local contractor Tom O’Brien construction, who was appointed at the end of March.
Once the project is handed over in mid-June 2022, equipping and commissioning will follow for a period of 2 months and it’s hoped the Cath Lab will be available for operational use from September 2022.
Minister of State Mary Butler confirmed the news:
“Unfortunately, construction could not commence in April due to levels of Covid Infection presenting at UHW.

It’s hoped the new Cath Lab for University Hospital Waterford will be up and running by next summer.
A start date for construction on the vital resource has been announced with work beginning on May 17th.
It’s expected to take 13 months before the lab will become operational.
The news has been welcomed by Junior Minister James Browne who says it will generate more capacity at the hospital and is very positive news for patients in County Wexford and the wider South East region.

Cardiac Cath Lab nurse Melissa Brajacki received the prestigious honor after a family nominated her for the care she provided to their mother, who underwent a high-risk procedure. The family praised Brajacki for being more than welcoming to them, allowing them to see their mother before she went under the scalpel at a time when the coronavirus pandemic restricted visitation at the hospital.
