Venezuelan Parliament adopts agreements to defend sovereignty
Caracas, Jan 7 (Prensa Latina) The National Assembly (unicameral Parliament) approved on Thursday two agreements for the creation of special commissions for the defense of Venezuela s sovereignty. A first working group, headed by lawmaker Hermann Escarra, of the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP), the first Vice President will be Earle Herrera of the same party and the second Vice President Timoteo Zambrano, representing the opposition, will be in charge of every issue related to the controversy with Guyana over the Esequibo territory.
Upon the agreement s approval, Escarra reiterated that Venezuela categorically rejects the ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in which it assured on December 18 that the organization has jurisdiction over the lawsuit of Guyana against Venezuela over that territory.
